Through his music he aspired to eliminate these social standards and instead attempted to promote equality, but Marley sings as if these social standards will forever remain, à ¢â‚¬Å"the dream of lasting peace, world citizenship, Rule of international morality, Will remain in but a fleeting illusion to be pursued, But never attained.† (â€Å"War† 1976). Marley believes that it will be up to the people to decide whether to pursue this unity, but he also understands the difficulties of bringing so many together as one.
